For the 550th birth anniversary of the First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, IHA Foundation, Earth Day Network-India, and the Municipal Corporation Amritsar will join hands to beautify and take environment-friendly actions in Amritsar city. 5500 trees will be PLANTED by IHA and EDN together along with the support of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation. Both the organizations had come to Amritsar in March 2018 on Sikh Environment Day and got the assurance of the Mayor to join hands to beautify the city.
A campaign was started last year to jointly take up environmental issues, like tackling the pollution and to end the use of plastic in the city. IHA Foundation and EDN’s campaigns to #EndPlasticPollution to put a stop to the usage of plastic in the country and what new approaches IHA & EDN can suggest to the Commissioner to supplement their existing efforts to improve the city’s environment and make it plastic free, were discussed.
The Commissioner informed that as a result of the campaign to End Plastic Pollution started by EDN, Shri Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) banned plastic in their premises and now only eco-friendly bags are being used. EDN is felicitating SGPC with a certificate and a tie-up with the Municipal Corporation will bring synergy. We have great hopes from this association that will support the Municipal Corporation in various areas, like community mobilization and environment improvement and also promote the concept of Reuse, Reduces and Recycle plastic waste. To commemorate the birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, 5500 trees will be planted, plastic-free schools will be promoted and how to manage waste in the community. These initiatives will not only promote awareness but will help manage plastic waste systematically. We view this association with great hopes to bring in environmental improvement in the city. The meeting with the Delegation was very successful and fruitful.
