5500 trees and plants will be planted in the holy city of Amritsar: IHA Foundation



Harshprateek: 14th March 2019 IHA Foundation and Earth Day Network, an NGO that works year-round to solve climate change, to end plastic pollution, to protect endangered species, and to broaden, educate, and activate the environmental movement across the globe that began with the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Today, 49 years later, it partners with over 50,000 organizations in some 196 countries. Both organizations have partnered together to take the environment forward in India. As you are aware that the year 2019 will mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the first Sikh Guru and the founder of the faith, IHA Foundation and Earth Day Network with the support of Amritsar Municipal Corporation will plant 5500 trees and plants in the holy city of Amritsar as a tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. March 14 is the Gurta Gaddi Diwas (coronation day) of Guru Har Rai ji, the seventh Sikh Guru and is therefore celebrated worldwide as Sikh Environmental Day and is also the first day of 'Chet', which is the Sikh New Year. Guru Har Rai ji, who was also known as the preserver of nature is remembered for his love for nature and care for animals. He is perhaps the first environmentalist in South Asia, who, during his reign from 1644 to 1661, started and promoted herbal gardens and wildlife refuge.

On this auspicious occasion we started our campaign by planting more than 100 tree and plant saplings at Gol Bagh, Amritsar today at 12:00 noon along with S. Amarbir Singh Dhot, President Sikh Student Federation Mehta, Sant Surinder Singhji Mitha Tiwana Amritsar, S.Gurwinder Singh ji President United Sikhs,New York and other dignitaries along with a delegation of IHA Foundation and Earth Day Network lead by Dr.Satnam Singh Ahluwalia. We also held a discussion session from 3:00pm onwards today in Com. Sohan Singh Josh District Library, Rani Ka Bagh on Environment and its impact in Society which was participated by a cross-section of people from different walks of life. Both the organizations IHA Foundation and Amritsar Municipal Corporation discussed several environmental projects to be implemented very soon in the holy city of Amritsar, which shall involve school, colleges, educational institutions, malls, parks, and squares etc. We are very thankful to S.Karamjit Singh, Hon’ble Mayor of Amritsar for taking prompt initiatives and supporting our campaign.
